Leaf blades are wide and covered with short, soft hairs on both surfaces. The seedhead is a long, narrow spike with large seeds. Habit can be low and spreading or erect, up to 30 inches tall. One plant can produce more than 23,000 seeds and seeds can germinate from a depth of 3” in soil. Native of TX. OK, NM, and AZ south to TX and Mexico.
